Model Plus The Atom

Simple for elementary level students, yet comprehensive enough for middle school, these colorful teaching models were designed specifically for hands-on use. The models are made of resilient, non-toxic EVA foam to withstand years of active investigation. A thorough, detailed teacher’s guide includes inquiry-based lab activities, reproducible worksheets, complete background information, assessment ideas and more. When one takes quantum theory into account, it is clear that the known Bohr model of the atom is over-simplified. Current depictions of the atom, such as this new model, therefore show electron orbits not as neat ellipses, but rather as having the appearance of a fuzzy “electron cloud”.
